RUBY GRINDSTAFF 

BAKERSVILLE - Ruby Grindstaff, 86, of Water Street, died Friday, Oct. 21, 2005 
at her home. She was the daughter of the late John and Bertha Thomas Whitson, 
and wife of the late Vernon Grindstaff Sr. She was also preceded in death by a 
great grandson, Nahum Grindstaff. She was a member of Silver Chapel Baptist 
Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan McKinney of Bakersville; three sons, Gerald, 
Vernon Jr. and Harold Grindstaff, all of Bakersville; one brother, Sherwood 
Whitson of Burnsville; four grandsons; 11 great grandchildren; and two great 
great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Silver Chapel Baptist Church. 
Revs. Jonathan Thacker, Jay Orr, Harold Grindstaff and Matthew Grindstaff 
officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 
5-7 p.m. Sunday at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine.
