RAY JUNIOR GUNTER 

SPRUCE PINE - Ray Junior Gunter, 84, of Beaver Creek Road, died Sunday, Feb. 
10, 2008 at his home. He was the son of the late W.A. Gunter and Iva Burleson 
Gunter. He was a 30-year veteran of the Spruce Pine Police Department, serving 
as Chief of Police from 1966 until his retirement in 1987.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Lee Lusk Gunter of the home; a daughter, 
Frankie Marie Gardner of Spruce Pine; four sons, Richard and Steve Gunter, 
both of Spruce Pine, Danny Gunter of North Cove, and Bobby Gunter of 
Burnsville; a brother, Howard Gunter of Spruce Pine; one sister, Mary Ruth 
Ayers of Spruce Pine; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several 
nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel 
of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Burial was Wednesday in Spruce Pine 
Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the 
funeral home.
