BAKERSVILLE - Verna B. Gage, 93, of Gage Branch Road, died Sunday, Oct. 
24, 2004 at Brian Center Healthcare in Spruce Pine. She was the daughter 
of the late George and Laura Buchanan McNeil, and wife of the late Carroll 
D. Gage. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Wayne Gage; 
three sisters; and two brothers. She was retired from Belks Store and was 
also a teacher for the Mitchell County School System. She was an active 
member of Vians Valley Presbyterian Church, where she taught the Adult 
Women's Sunday School Class and was the youth director and president of 
the Presbyterian Women's Organization.

Survivors include a daughter, Norma Smith of Spruce Pine; sons, J. C. Gage 
of Johnson City, TN, and Gary Gage of Senoia, GA; a sister, Florence Green 
of Bakersville; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Bob Simes and Bill Smith 
officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Bakersville Memorial 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour 
at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Vians Valley 
Presbyterian Church, c/o Wayne Turbyfield, P.O. Box 202, Bakersville, NC 
28705.
