GARLAND BAKERSVILLE ­ Paul H. Garland, 85, of the Buladean community, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at Johnson City Medical Center. He was the son of the late Arvell and Bessie Street Garland. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Josie Gouge, and one brother, Charles Garland. A graduate of ETSU, he received his masters degree in Administration from Appalachian State Universtiy. During his 41 year teaching career, he was a teacher and principal at Buladean Elementary School. He was a member of Buladean Presbyterian Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher and treasurer. He was a moderator of Roan View Singing Convention and a Scout Master for a number of years. He was also a member of Roan Mountain Eastern Star 29, Past Worthy Patron, Past District Deputy Grand Patron, member of Bakersville Masonic Lodge 357 AM FM, and Past Master-32 Degree Mason. Survivors include one niece, Sandra Gouge; two nephews; and two great nieces. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Buladean Presbyterian Church. Revs. Leonard Shehan and Fred Morgan officiated. Burial was in the Garland-Parker Cemetery, where graveside rites were conducted by Bakersville Masonic Lodge.
