ROY H. GARLAND
BAKERSVILLE - Roy H. Garland, 73, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 
Spruce Pine Community Hospital. He was the sonof the late Garrett 
and Mary Greene Garland. A member of Berera Brethren Church, he was 
a self-employed timberman and logger.
Survivors include two sons, Marvin Garland of Johnson City, TN, and 
Melvin Garland of Lexington; five sisters, Hazel Stevens of Spruce 
Pine, Viola Masters and Nellie Yelton of Bakersville, Fairy Mae 
Carver of Johnson City, TN, and Shirley Yelton of Finksburg, MD; four 
brothers, Malone Garland of Bakersville, Nattie Garland of Glenrock, 
PA, Rev. Cecil Garland and Ernest Garland of Johnson City, TN; two 
granddaughters; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Henline-Hughes 
Funeral Home. Revs. Cecil Garland, G.B. Garland, and Larry Greene 
officiated. Burial followed in Garland-Greene Cemetery. The family 
received friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
