MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Jay Garland, 4 Aug 2002 ----¤¤¤---- JAY GARLAND MICAVILLE - Jay Garland, 70, of Hwy. 19E, died Sunday, August 4, 2002 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine. A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Doss Garland and Pearl Stevens Garland of Bakersville. He was employed by Avondale Mills and was a member of Mine Fork Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a member of Burnsville Masonic Lodge #717 A.F. & A.M. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Wilma Stockton Garland of the home; sons, Ronnie Ray Garland of Jonesborough, TN, and John Eric Garland of Burnsville; daughter, Connie Jay Presnell of Green Mountain; sisters, Elvia Gay Garland of Hendersonville, Ellen Hawley of Atlanta, GA, Carolyn Galloway of Rosman, and Doris Hill Phillips of Bakersville; brothers, Lloyd Garland, Ray Garland, Howard Garland and Elmer Garland, all of Bakersville; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren;and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Henline- Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Ronnie Gouge and Jeff Fox officiated. Burial followed in Garland Cemetery, with graveside rites conducted by Burnsville Masonic Lodge #717 A.F. & A.M. the family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
