MARIE BRINKLEY GARLAND
BAKERSVILLE - Marie Brinkley Garland, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 
at St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville. She was the daughter of the late Gus 
Brinkley and Dora Garland Brinkley Cable. She was also preceded in death 
by five children, Alma, Sue, Harvey and Billy Garland, and Dovie Tracey. 
She was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Louise Francis of Jonesborough, TN, 
Dora Lou Wishon of Johnson City, TN, and Wanda Tracey of Fulton, PA; five 
sons, Clyde, Roger and Robert Garland, and Wayne Brinkley, all of Bakersville, 
and Troy Garland of Gray, TN; a brother, Clyde Brinkley of Bakersville; one 
sister, Mildred Norris of Elizabethton, TN; 30 grandchildren; 52 great 
grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Spring Creek Baptist church. 
Revs. Bob McCurry and G.B. Garland officiated. Burial followed in Garland 
Parker Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the 
church. Memorial donations may be made to Mitchell County Hospice, P.O. Box 38, 
Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
