MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Myrtle Gouge Garland, 30 Oct 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Myrtle G. Garland Mrs. Myrtle Gouge Garland, age 86, formerly of the Lamar Community, died Thursday, October 30, 2003 in the Asbury Center, Johnson City. Mrs. Garland was a Mitchell County, North Carolina native and a daughter of the late Edd and Sallie Ledford Gouge. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Garland was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Garland, and a sister, Helena Buchanan. Survivors include two brothers and sisters-in-law, Farrell and Mary Belle Gouge and Bradley and Charlene Gouge, all of Johnson City; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Pansy Tipton, of Kernersville, North Carolina; Ethel Harrell, of Manchester, Maryland.; Lois Street; Edna and Bill Masters, and Mary and Donald Parker, all of Gray, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Garland will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2003 from the Unicoi Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Phillip Rogers will officiate. Music will be under the direction of Phyllis Garland and Angie Honeycutt. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2003 in Roselawn Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Nephews will serve as pallbearers and are requested to assemble at the funeral home by 7:30 p.m. Saturday and at the cemetery by 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of a brother, Bradley Gouge, 138 Bradley Gouge Rd., Cherokee Community, Johnson City.
