MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Bill W. Garland, 24 Mar 2004

TAYLORSVILLE - Bill W. Garland, 88, formerly of Mitchell County, died 
Wednesday, Mar. 24, 2004. He was the son of the late Rayburn and Dora 
Hughes Garland, and husband of the late Ethel Burleson Garland. He was 
also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Simmerly, and a granddaughter, 
Sonya Garland. He was retired from Henredon Furniture Company and was a 
member of Berry Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Ledford of Ft. Myers, FL; a son, 
Carroll Garland of Taylorsville; sisters, Jean Frazier of Orlando, FL, 
and Norma Hopson of Baltimore, MD; a brother, Wesley Jade Garland of 
Bakersville; two grandsons; and four great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Greg Hollifield and Gerald 
Grindstaff officiated. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until 
the service hour Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may 
be made to Berry Chapel Baptist Church, Altapass Road, Spruce Pine, NC 
28777.
