She was the daughter of the late Jeter and Belle Deyton McCourry. A homemaker, she was a member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Helma Deyton of Burnsville; a son, Ronald Gortney of Asheville; sisters, Virgie Adkins of Hendersonville, and Trula Garland of Essex, MD; brothers, Paul Damon McCourry and Bud McCourry both of New Smyrna, FL; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Wade Boone and Chet Glenn officiated. Burial followed in Union Hill Cemetery.
