MARTHA GARLAND GORTNEY

BAKERSVILLE - Martha Garland Gortney, 94, of Whitson Branch Road, 
died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at the Yancey Nursing Center. She was 
the daughter of the late Vard and Linda Briggs Garland, and wife 
of the late Calvin Gortney. She was also preceded in death by a 
son, Troy Gortney; and sisters Hannah and Mary Garland. She was a 
member of Green Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Goldie McCurry of Baltimore, MD; 
and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of 
Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Ronnie Whitson 
and Roy Whitson officiated. Burial was in Garland-Tipton Cemetery. 
The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the 
funeral home.
