LOIS WHITSON GORTNEY

BAKERSVILLE - Lois Whitson Gortney, 79, of Hwy. 226 N, died 
Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Brian Center Healthcare in Spruce Pine. 
She was the daughter of the late John and Bertha Thomas Whitson, 
and wife of the late Albert Chester Gortney.
Survivors include her sons, Larry Gortney of Bakersville, and Gary 
Wayne Gortney of Telford, TN; a daughter, Sheila Floyd of Johnson 
City, TN; sisters, Rosa Silver and Ruby Grindstaff, both of 
Bakersville; a brother, Sherwood Whitson of Burnsville; six 
grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of 
Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Rev. Gerald Grindstaff 
officiated. Burial followed in Red Hill Cemetery. The family 
received friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial 
donations may be made to Gardens of Memories, Brian Center Healthcare, 
218 Laurel Creek Court, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
