MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Herbert W. Greene, 18 Jan 2004

BAKERSVILLE - Herbert W. Greene, 81, of Duncan Road, died Sunday, 
Jan. 18, 2004 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville. He was the 
son of the late Johnny and Nettie King Greene, and husband of the 
late Jennie Mae Pittman Greene. He was also preceded in death by a 
sister, Emma Lee Miller, and a brother, Earshel Greene. He was 
employed as a mechanic with the North Carolina Department of 
Transportation, and was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Thomas Greene of the home; two 
daughters, Wilda Stevenson, and Melba Poteat, both of Marion; three 
sons, Larry and Gary Greene, both of Bakersville, and Lloyd Greene 
of Maryville, TN; six sisters, Eula Mae Brown of Baltimore, MD, 
Georgia Ellis of Asheville, Jean Swomley of Reisterstown, MD, Ilene 
Bernardini and Edie Hipsley, both of Ellicott City, MD, and Carol 
Wilson of Bakersville; one brother, J.D. Greene of Mountain Home, 
TN; 22 grandchildren; and 32 great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bear Creek 
Baptist Church. Revs. Chris Rathbone and Billy Mitchell officiated. 
Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received frineds 
from 12:30 until the service hour Wednesday at the church.
