EVERETTE GREER
SPRUCE PINE - Everette Greer, 80, of Route 1, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 
2002 at the Brian Center in Spruce Pine. He was the son of John M. and 
Virgie Mae Cuthbertson Greer, and husband of the late June Fox Greer. A 
self-employed brick mason, he was a U.S. Army veteran who received a 
total of four Bronze Stars and was a member of the Lost Battalion in the 
Philipines. He was also a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Helen Davies of Black Mountain; sons, 
Everette Eugene Greer of Marion, and William Douglas Greer of Harmony; 
two sisters, Joyce Rabon of Oklahoma, and Doris Helms of Georgia; three 
grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Rev. Matthew Mills officiated. Burial 
was at 10 a.m. Saturday in Grassy Creek Memorial Cemetery. The family 
received friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
