HOWARD GRINDSTAFF

SPRUCE PINE - Howard Grindstaff, 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 
at his home. He was the son of the late Charles Jefferson and 
Nettie Miller Grindstaff. He was also preceded in death by five 
brothers, Jenus, Isaac, Lecil, Frank and Charles Grindstaff; and 
five sisters, Alice Sparks, Odessa Clark, Hazel McKinney, Belle 
Gouge, and Betty Thomas. A member of Spruce Pine Methodist Church 
and a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force, he was 
self-employed most of his life. He and his family lived in Colorado 
for 34 years before returning to Spruce Pine in 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Swofford Grindstaff of the home; 
daughters, Beverly Grindstaff of Sunnyvale, CA, and Myra Chisholm 
of Pueblo, CO; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Spruce Pine United Methodist Church 
at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Revs. Lynda T. Briggs and Larry Green 
officiated. Burial was in Bear Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations 
may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, 
NC 28777, or Spruce Pine United Methodist Church, 11090 Hwy. 226 
South, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was 
in charge of arrangements.
