GLENN GROSS
SPRUCE PINE – Glenn Gross, 71, of the Altapass community, died Tuesday, 
February 5, 2002. Born in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late H. Glenn and 
Mary Jane Campbell Gross. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James 
Gross, and a sister, Elizabeth Louise Gross. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and 
served in the Korean War. He was also a retired trucker and attended Altapass 
Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Augusta Buchanan Gross; five sons, Charles, Barry 
and John Gross, all of Spruce Pine, Michael Gross of High Point, and Paul 
Gross of Mililani, Hawaii; four daughters, Mary Sparks of Bakersville, Jill 
Byrd of Spruce Pine, Cathy Robinson of Lexington and Rebecca Whitworth of 
Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; eight step 
grandchildren; and one step great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Altapass Baptist Church. 
Revs. Steve Sisk and Chris Rathbone officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday 
in McKinney Gap Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the 
service hour Thursday. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of 
arrangements.
