VIRGINIA B. HAYES

BAKERSVILLE - Virginia B. Hayes, of Snow Hill Road, died Friday, 
Apr. 11, 2003. She was the daughter of the late William and Juanita 
Ledford Buchanan, and wife of the late John Russell Hayes. She was 
also preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Pitman and Vara Stapleton; 
and two brothers, Horace and Fred Buchanan. She was a member of Snow 
Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Franklin Hayes of Bakersville; two daughters, 
Carolyn Spangler of Shelby and Gail Greene of Bakersville; one sister, 
Alma Tolley of Spruce Pine; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 
three great grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Gerald Grindstaff and 
Vernon Buchanan officiated. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Monday in 
Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 
p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice 
of Mitchell County, 287 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
