AVIS R. HEFNER

SPRUCE PINE - Avis R. Hefner, 77, of the Humpback Mountain 
community, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at her home. She was 
the daughter of the late Otis and Martha Jones Riddle. She 
was also preceded in death by three brothers, Claude, Nimpson 
and A.J. Riddle; and six sisters, Estelene Dale, Pansy Burleson, 
Sally Bartlett, Annie Greenlee, Hazel Phillips and Wanda Riddle. 
She was a homemaker and member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Hefner of the home; two 
sons, Jennings Hefner of Spruce Pine and Jay Hefner of Cranberry; 
a sister, Dorothy Bailey of Spruce Pine; a brother, Edd Riddle of 
Spruce Pine; four grandchildren; two great grandsons; and several 
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Grassy Creek Baptist 
Church. Revs. Steve Williams and Sibbald Lambert officiated. Burial 
was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. 
Sunday at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine.
