He was the son of the late Garfield and Dovie Woody Hollifield. He was also preceded in death by a son, John Hollifield Jr. A retired steel reckoner with Bethlehem Steel in Maryland, he was a former deacon of Cane Creek Baptist Church and was active in Little League baseball. Survivors include his wife, Mabel Dellinger Hollifield of the home; sons, Joseph Hollifield of Baltimore, MD, and Bradley Ledford of Valdese; a daughter, Mildred Parker of Bakersville; 11 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cane Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Mark McKinney officiated. Burial followed in Cane Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville.
