MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Joe A. Howell, 9 Feb 2005

SPRUCE PINE - Joe A. Howell, 75, of Crabtree Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 9,
2005 in Spruce Pine Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Paul A. and
Dollie Sparks Howell, and husband of the late Sue McKinney Howell. He was a
member of Black Mountain Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and
Sunday School superintendent. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Fred L. and Mozelle Howell of
Bakersville; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Grindstaff Memorial
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. Revs. Clayton McKinney, Greg Hollifield and
Ronnie Gouge officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday in Burnette Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour Thursday at the
funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Spruce Pine Hospital
Volunteers, P.O. Drawer 9, Spruce Pine, NC 28777; or Hospice of Mitchell
County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
