He was the son of the late Rexter and Lettie Ingram Ledford, and wife of the late Ernest Hughes. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Gail Hughes; a son, Ernie Lee Hughes; a sister, Gladys Campbell; brothers, Clarence and Robert Ledford; and a granddaughter, Martha Ann Jenkins. She was a homemaker and member of St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Wilma Troutman of Bakersville, and Evelyn Jenkins of Johnson City, TN; one son, Lawrence A. Hughes of Bakersville; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Freewill Baptist Church. Revs. Roger Laws and Ulis Miller officiated. Burial followed in Hughes Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the church. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville was in charge of arrangements.
