SENA BARNETT HUGHES
BAKERSVILLE – Sena Barnett Hughes, 90, died June 16, 2002 in Memorial 
Mission Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Soloman and Victoria 
Griffith Barnett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James 
Gartha Hughes; sons, Loy and Lonnie Hughes; sisters, Lassie Peterson and 
Pansy Hughes; and brothers, Garther, Ray and Calvin Barnett.
Survivors include her daughters, Olene Hutchins of Lenior, and Elene 
Bryant of Green Mountain; sons, Lee Hughes of West Grove, PA, and L.C. 
Hughes of Kennet Square, PA; sisters, Nell Branch of Spruce Pine, and Ann 
Gouge and Mae Hughes both of Green Mountain; brother, Iss Barnett of Erwin; 
nine grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Tommy Murphy, Jeff Hoyle and 
J.B. Crouse officiated. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the 
service hour at the funeral hoem. Burial followed in Byrd Creek Cemetery in 
Green Mtn.
