CHARLES GARRETT HUGHES

GREEN MOUNTAIN - Charles Garrett Hughes, 75, of Sams Branch Road, died 
Thursday, June 19, 2003. A native of Spindale, he was the son of the late 
Leeter and Cora Honeycutt Hughes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and 
a truck driver. He was also the owner/operator of Charles General Store. 
He was a member of Huntdale Freewill Baptist Church and attended Bailey 
Brethern Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lindsey Hughes and 
a sister, Mamie Brashear.
Survivors include his wife, Atlas Peterson Hughes, of the home; daughters, 
Sharrol Hensley and Rhonda Phillips of Green Mtn., Loretta Hotto of Charlotte, 
and Beth Bridges of Jonesboro, TN; sons, Michael Charles Hughes of Mt. Holly, 
Rickey P. Hughes of Green Mountain, and Mark A Hughes of Erwin, TN; sisters, 
Myrtle Jarman of Charlotte and Laura Lingerfelt of Morganton; a brother, 
John R. Hughes of Kingston, TN; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bailey Brethren Church. 
Revs. Reed Bagby, Dean Murphy and Chad Hensley officated. Burial followed in 
Huntdale Cemetary. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at 
Henline-Hughes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mitchell 
County, P.O. Box 38. Spruce Pine, NC 28777. Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in 
Bakersville was in charge of arrangements.
