ROY J. HUGHES 

BAKERSVILLE - Roy J. Hughes, 76, of Rosewood Drive, died Friday, 
Apr. 9, 2004 at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was the son 
of the late Dan and Etta Deyton Hughes. He was also preceded in death 
by a son, Glen Hughes; and brothers, Caswell and Arnold Hughes. He 
was a member of Ridgeview Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Tipton Hughes of the home; a son, 
Robert Hughes of Bakersville; sisters, Lenora Webb and Belva Deyton, 
both of Bakersville, Ora Peterson of Erwin, TN, and Aza and Edna Hughes, 
both of Jonesboro, TN; and two grandsons. 
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Rev. Ronnie Gouge officiated. Burial 
was at 11 a.m. Monday in Red Hill Cemetery. The family received friends 
from 7 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
