He was the son of the late Dub and Ada Buchanan Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Gladys Pitman and Edna Wiseman; and a brother, Robert Johnson. A long-time employee of Explosive Supply, he was also co-owner of Johnson Paving. A member of Freedom Baptist Church, he retired from the Spruce Pine Volunteer Fired Department after 33 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Theresa Smith Johnson; daughters, Suzanne Dayton and Rebecca Dale, both of Spruce Pine; sisters, Betty Murphy and Kathern Riddle, both of Spruce Pine, and Jean Buchanan of Marion; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Baptist Church. Revs. David Troutman, Bill Smith and R.M. Cassity officiated. Burial was in Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour Saturday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to: Spruce Pine Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund, P.O.
