MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Dr. Don Hoyle Lovelace, 15 Nov 2003 ----¤¤¤¤---- DR. DON HOYLE LOVELACE SPRUCE PINE - Dr. Don Hoyle Lovelace, 69, of Lentz Lane, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at Spruce Pine Community Hospital. A long-time resident of Forest City, he was the son of the late Hoyle and Lula Street Lovelace. He was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Francesca Mathes. He was the retired Dean of Industrial Services and Business at A-B Tech in Asheville, as well as an electronics instructor at Mayland Community College. He was one of the original founders of "This Week" newspaper, which is now the Forest City Daily Courier, and former owner of WAGY, WAGI, and WEAC radio stations. He was also a substitute teacher for Mitchell County Schools and a community trainer for people living with developmental disabilities. A U.S. Army veteran, he attended First Assembly of God and Race Path Baptist Church, both in Forest City. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Crotts Lovelace of the home; a son, David Lovelace of Asheville; two daughters, Donna Mathes and Kaye Webb Isom, both of Spruce Pine; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Greg Hollifield and Frank Wyatt officiated. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday in Race path Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Dan Thompson officiating. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
