BROWN MCKINNEY 

SPRUCE PINE - Brown McKinney, 82, of Hillcrest Circle, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 
2007. He was the son of the late Roy and Maggie Renfro McKinney. He was also 
preceded in death by two brothers, R.H. McKinney and Harry McKinney. He was a 
member of First Baptist Church of Spruce Pine, where he served as a deacon for 
13 years. He was also a Mason, a Shriner, and a volunteer fireman.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Howell McKinney of the home; a son, Mark 
McKinney of Fletcher; two granddaughters; and one grandson. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of 
Spruce Pine. Dr. David Vess and Hospice chaplain, Rev. Larry Greene, 
officiated. Burial was in Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. The family received 
friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour Saturday at the church. Memorial 
donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, 
NC 28777; or Mitchell County Senior Citizens Center, Highway 226, Bakersville, 
NC 28705.
