GLADYS C. MCKINNEY 

SPRUCE PINE - Gladys C. McKinney, 88, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007 in the 
Brian Center in Spruce Pine. She was the daughter of the late B.M. and Verdie 
Canipe Sr., and wife of the late Howard McKinney. She was also preceded in 
death by a brother, Albert Canipe; and a sister, Iona Price. A homemaker, she 
was a member of Grassy Creek Presbyterian Church and often visited the 
Mitchell Senior Center.

Survivors include three sons, Phillip McKinney of Spruce Pine, Edd McKinney of 
Grand Rapids, Mich., and Rex McKinney of Denver; a daughter, Margaret Phillips 
of Morganton; brothers, Carroll and Ernest Canipe, both of Spruce Pine, and 
B.M. Canipe of Suffolk, Va.; sisters, Rose Biddix of Marion, and Connie Bunch 
of Suffolk; four grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Webb Funeral Home 
in Spruce Pine. Rev. Mike Brazelle officiated. Burial followed in Greenlee 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour at 
the funeral home.
