BAKERSVILLE - Virgil Murdock Jr., of Hamburg Road, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 in Westchester Manor Nursing Home in High Point. He was the son of the late Virgil Murdock Sr. and Faye Duncan Murdock. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Murdock. He was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for the last 40 years. He directed the church's tape ministry and sang with the Bear Creek Quartet for 30 years. He also sang with his wife and daughter as The Murdock Family. Survivors include his wife, Essie Murdock of the home; a daughter, Sherry Edwards of High Point; a brother, Doug Murdock of Asheville; two granddaughters; and seven nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bear Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Chris Rathbone, Mark Hollar and Steve Fox officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Gideons International, Mitchell County Camp, P.O. Box 611, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
