SCHELL MCCALL

SPRUCE PINE - Robert Schell McCall Jr., 86, of WNC Baptist Retirement 
Home, formerly of the English Woods community, died Monday, July 7, 
2003 in an Asheville hospital. He was the son of the late Robert Schell 
and Annie Wilson McCall Sr. A charter member of Central Baptist Church, 
he served as deacon, treasurer and Sunday School teacher. He was a U.S. 
Army veteran and owner of McCall's Department Store from 1951-1988. He 
also served on the board of NCNB in Spruce Pine.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Culp McCall of WNC Baptist Retirement 
Home; sons, Dr. Forrest Schell McCall of Burnsville, and Dr. Robert W. 
McCall of Culpepper, VA; a brother, Dr. Howard McCall of Thomson, GA; 
three granddaughters; one great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Jim Sutton and Wayne 
Slaton officiated. Burial was in Spruce Pine Memorial Cemetery. The 
family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
