He was the son of the late Elliott McGee and Mary Henline McGee Ellis. A member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church, he served 14 years in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired Greyhound racing dog trainer. Survivors include his daughters, Mary Ann Grogan of Spartanburg, SC, and Lisa Honaker of Deltona, FL; a sister, Margaret Buchanan of Spruce Pine; his companion, Shirlene Kuleski of Jacksonville; five grandsons; two nieces; and several cousins, aunts and uncles. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Rev. Harold Grindstaff officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour at the church. Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine was in charge of arrangements.
