She was the daughter of the late Floyd and Lora Jane Hefner. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Louise McKinney; and brothers, Fred, Walter, Tommy, Leonard and Carmen Hefner. She was a life-long member of Altapass Baptist Church, where she was former secretary-treasurer. Survivors include her husband, Rex V. McKinney; two children, Greg McKinney and Neva Cox, both of Spruce Pine; sisters, Trula Whitson, Betty Frizzell and Peggy McKinney, all of Spruce Pine; brothers, Ernest and Dorman Hefner, both of Spruce Pine; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Altapass Baptist Church. Revs. Steve Sisk and Howard Forbes officiated. Burial was in McKinney Gap Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Memorial donations may be made to Samaritans Purse.
