He was the son of the late Rettie McKinney Stewart. He was the owner/operator of Tri-County Body Works in Spruce Pine. He attended Silver Chapel Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member and Past Master of Bakersville Masonic Lodge #537 A.F. & A.M., and a member and Past Worthy Patron of Roan Mountain Chapter #29 Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include his wife, Mary Buchanan McKinney of the home; one son, Jerry McKinney of Burnsville; one daughter, Rita Ayers of California City, CA; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Silver Chapel Baptist Church. Revs. R.M. Cassity, Clifford Earley and Jay Orr officiated. Masonic graveside rites were provided by Bakersville Masonic Lodge #537 A.F. & A.M. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine.
