MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Rev. Erby M. McKinney, 19 Nov 2003 ----¤¤¤¤---- REV. ERBY M. MCKINNEY ELIZABETHTON, TN - Rev. Erby M. McKinney, 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003 at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Herbert and Biddie Buchanan McKinney. He was also preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Wilkie McKinney; and one sister, Ruth Green. He was a member of Doe River Baptist Church and a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute. He had served as pastor at several churches before retiring. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife, Louise Ward McKinney of the home; three daughters, Carolyn Duszak, Barbara Grindstaff and Debbie Radford, all of Elizabethton; two brothers, Lloyd McKinney of Spruce Pine and Buddy McKinney of Bakersville; two sisters, Betty Jean Bennett of Bakersville, and Ebbie Wyatt of Burnsville; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Doe River Baptist Church. Revs. Steve Sisk, Willie Lunceford and Ronnie Lunceford officiated. Burial followed at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Russell McKinney officiating. Military honors were by Capt. Lynn H. Folsum VFW Post 2166.
