MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Barney R. McKinney, 28 May 2004

SPRUCE PINE - Barney R. McKinney, 80, of Barney McKinney Road, died 
Friday, May 28, 2004 in a Spruce Pine healthcare facility. He was the 
son of the late Melvin and Mary Jane Autrey McKinney. He was also 
preceded in death by three sisters, Cora Dover, Nevada McCall and Floy 
Biddix; and two brothers, Roy and Lonas McKinney. He was a member of 
Freedom Baptist Church and was retired from Henredon Furniture. He was 
a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene S. McKinney of the home; a son, Keith 
McKinney of Spruce Pine; a daughter, Vicky Byrd of Spruce Pine; three 
sisters, Maxine Page of Charlotte, Ruby Bradshaw of Valdese, and Lillian 
Walker of Elkin; and one grandson. 
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Sunday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Todd Ayers, David 
Troutman, Darrin Waldroup and Luther Carver officiated. Graveside services 
were held at 11 a.m. Monday in Bethel Missionary Church Cemetery. The 
family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour Sunday #at the 
funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, 
284 Hospital Drive, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
