JOHN J. MILLER JR.

SPRUCE PINE - John J. Miller Jr., 69, of the Swiss Pine Lake community, 
died Wednesday, Jan. 22. 2003 at his home. He was the son of the late John 
Miller Sr. and Julia Ray Miller-Gardin, and was a member of St. James United 
Methodist Church. He retired from the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant with 22 
years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Jackson Miller; a daughter, Gwen Conley of 
Marion; sons, Anthony Miller of Marion, and John Miller III of Asheville; 
eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. Revs. Cathy Henson, Dewitt Miller 
and Michael Smith officiated. Burial was in McDowell Memorial Park. The family 
received friends from 1 p.m, until the service hour at the funeral home Saturday.
