MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - James Edward Nanney, 14 Jun 2002 ----¤¤¤---- JAMES EDWARD NANNEY BAKERSVILLE – James Edward Nanney, 80, died Friday, June 14, 2002 at Asheville VA Medical Hospital. A member of Estatoe Church of God, he was the son of the late Matt and Mae Nanney. He was a WWII Army veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Paul and Terry Nanney; a sister and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Marie Davis Nanney; 10 children, Ray Nanney of Troy, Ralph Nanney of Hickory, Opal Ballew, Darrell Nanney, and Terrell Nanney, all of Burnsville, Harold Nanney, Ferrell Nanney, Dana Nanney, and Marolynn Nanney, all of Spruce Pine, and Carolyn Nanney of Bakersville; four sisters, Louise Cox, Juanita Buchanan, and Linda Nanney, all of Spruce Pine, and Willie Fisher of Marion; a brother, Charles Nanney; 18 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Estatoe Church of God. Revs. Phillip Garland and Scott Jenkins officiated. Burial was in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with military graverites conducted by Sgt. E.L. Randolph, Chapter 57 DAV.
