JOHN MILTON PENDLEY SR. 
 
SPRUCE PINE - John "Jack" Milton Pendley Sr., 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 
2007 at his home. He was the son of the late David and Bertie Freeman Pendley. 
He was also preceded in death by a son, James W. Pendley. A U.S. Air Force 
veteran of WWII and the Korean War, he was a 65-year member of the Vesper 
Lodge 554 AF&AM. He loved woodworking and was a member of Higgins Memorial 
United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marcheta Pendley of the home; two sons, John M. 
Pendley Jr. of Spruce Pine, and Jerry Pendley of Shelby; two daughters, Mary 
Robinson of Spruce Pine, and Susan Buchanan of Burnsville; one brother, David 
L. Pendley Jr. of Spruce Pine; one sister, Evelyn Hughes of Spruce Pine; 11 
grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Grindstaff Memorial 
Chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. The Rev. Larry Greene officiated. 
Entombment will be in Spruce Pine Memorial Mausoleum. The family received 
friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour Saturday at the funeral home. 
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, 
Spruce Pine, NC 28777; or to Higgins Memorial UMC Building Fund, 101 N. Main 
Street, Burnsville, NC 28714.
