STOKES PITMAN 

BAKERSVILLE - Stokes Pitman, 75, of Bear Creek Church Road, died Sunday, Jan. 
21, 2007 in James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Hospital in Mountain 
Home, Tenn. He was the son of the late Thomas and Ora Buchanan Pitman. He was 
also preceded in death by a son, Ricky Pitman; a stepson, David Stamey; 
sisters, Belinda Pitman and Parvell Hughes; and a brother, Glenn Pitman. He 
was a retired homebuilder and brick mason, and was also retired from Henredon 
Furniture.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Buchanan Pitman of the home; two daughters, 
Vicki Blalock of Micaville, and Gail Harrison of Bakersville; three sisters, 
Hattie Zell Rathbone of Spruce Pine, Rose Ann Ledford of Bakersville, and 
Carolyn Birchfield of Johnson City, Tenn.; four brothers, Robert and James 
Pitman, both of Bakersville, Henry Pitman of Hickory, and Joe Pitman of Spruce 
Pine; and three grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes 
Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Chris Rathbone, Marvin Hensley and Dick 
Westbrook officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cane Creek Two 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until the service hour 
Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of 
Mitchell County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
