BILL JOSEPH PITMAN 

BAKERSVILLE - Bill Joseph Pitman, 84, of Saylors Lake Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 
27, 2007 in Ocala, Fla. He was the son of the late Richard and Dicie Lucinda 
Pitman, and husband of the late Joyce McKinney Pitman. He was also preceded in 
death by a brother, Ray Pitman. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of 
Bakersville Baptist Church, Bakersville Masonic Lodge #357 AF&AM, Lions Club, 
and Spruce Pine Moose Lodge #1159.

Survivors include a daughter, Janie Gibson of Blacksburg, S.C.; a sister, 
Minnie Atlas Cox of Hickory; two granddaughters; and three great-
grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bakersville Baptist Church. 
The Rev. Billy Stewart officiated. Graveside services were conducted by 
Bakersville Masonic Lodge in Pine Branch Cemetery, off of Roan Road. The 
family received friends from 7-8 p.m. Friday at Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in 
Bakersville. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell County, 
P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
