Born in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Wyatt and Lucreta Wise Woody, and wife of the late Aaron Pittman. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles William “Bill” Pittman; four brothers, Oakley, Lynn, Roe and Arthur Woody; and a sister, Merle Buchanan. Survivors include five daughters, Bobbie Newton, Peggy Sue Setzer and Gail Davis, all of Hickory, Annie Saine of Taylorsville, and Kay VanHorn of Conover; two brothers, Ted Woody of Bakersville, and Fred Woody of Hildebran; two sisters, Beulah Walton of Fort Worth, Texas, and Betty Buchanan of Charlotte; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. David Guelzow officiated. Burial was in St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hickory. Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care Center and Hospice Care of Catawba Valley or St. Stephens Luthern Church-Missouri Synod.
