RUTH E. PITTMAN 

CLAREMONT - Ruth E. (Granny) Pittman, 84, formerly of the Cane Creek community 
in Bakersville, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 in Palliative Care Center and 
Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. A native of Yancey County, she was the 
daughter of the late Wade and Minnie Buchanan English, and wife of the late 
Phillip Pittman. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Wilma 
Burleson; and a son, Rev. Loman Isaac (Butch) Pittman; four sisters, Lucy, 
Edna, Nell and Annie; and four brothers, Ralph, Troy, Floyd and Silas.

Survivors include a son, Vaughn Pittman; a sister, Phebi Buchanan of Newland; 
one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Faith Baptist Church in 
Bakersville. Revs. John Stamey and Rose Wise officiated. Burial followed in 
Cane Creek Cemetery. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the service 
hour at the church.
