BETTY LOU PITTMAN 

SPRUCE PINE - Betty Lou Pittman, 71, of Feldspar Street, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 
2006 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Audie E. and Pearl Sparks 
Pittman. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Horace, Paul, Lewis, 
Jesse, Lynn and Charles Pittman; and a sister, Grace Pitman. She was a retired 
nursing assistant at Spruce Pine Community Hospital.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Shipman of Cochran, Ga., and Larry Shipman 
of Eastman, Ga.; three daughters, Jill Jennings and Sherri Byrd, both of 
Spruce Pine, and Vickie Sherman of Old Fort; a brother, John Pitman of Boston, 
Mass.; two sisters, Lucy Bost of Marion, and Gert Ozburn of Monticello, Ga.; 
13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel 
of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine. The Rev. Monroe Cooke and Mike Pitman 
officiated. Burial followed in Swann Cemetery. The family received friends 
from 2:30 p.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.
