ALLEN D. PARSLEY
SPRUCE PINE - Allen D. Parsley, 86, of Harris Heights, died Friday, 
July 19, 2002 at his home. He was the son of the late George W. and 
Elizabeth Presnell Parsley. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, 
R.C. and Dave Parsley, both of the Newdale community. A WWII Army veteran, 
he was a member of First Baptist Church in Spruce Pine. While in the Army, 
he earned the Oakleaf Cluster, Bronze Star, Silver Star and the Purple Heart. 
He worked with his father, brothers and son in the family retail business 
until his retirement in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Glenn Parsley of the home; a son, Dale 
Allen Parsley of Spruce Pine; a brother, Sam Parsley of Newdale; a sister, 
Daisy Young of Newdale; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. Drs. 
Page Lee and David Vess officiated. Burial was in Spruce Pine Memorial 
Cemetery. The family received friends from 12:30 p.m. until the service 
hour at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Mitchell 
County, P.O. Box 38, Spruce Pine, NC 28777.
