MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Lucy Smith Pitman, 29 May 2004

SPRUCE PINE - Lucy Smith Pitman, 90, died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 
her home. She was the daughter of the late Calhoun and Josephine Tolley 
Smith, and wife of the late Milt Pitman and the late Fred Duncan. She 
was also preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Burleson. She was a 
retired seamstress and a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Norene McKinney of Spruce Pine, and 
Jean Hollifield of Bakersville; a sister, Lillian Drum of Hickory; seven 
grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bear Creek Baptist Church. 
Revs. Chris Rathbone and Howard Buchanan officiated. Burial followed in 
the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. in the 
chapel of Webb Funeral Home in Spruce Pine.
