He was the son of James W. and Alice Honeycutt Peterson, and husband of the late Kate G. Peterson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Buster Peterson. He had been an employee in the maintenance department of Clinchfield Railroad, and was a member and deacon of Bailey Brethren Church. Survivors include four daughters, Atlas Hughes, Lorene Adkins and Etta Murphy, all of Green Mountain, and Alice Whitson of Erwin, TN; one son, Gene Peterson of Burnsville; three sisters, Eula Laws of Burnsville, Carrie Elrod of Johnson City, TN, and Pansy Haggie of Kingsport, TN; two brothers, Park Peterson of Green Mountain, and Raymond Peterson of Unicoi; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Brethren Church. Revs. Randy Griffith, Jimmy Griffith and Chad Hensley officiated. Burial followed in Bennett Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville.
