EFFIE BENNETT PETERSON

BAKERSVILLE - Effie Bennett Peterson, 85, of Peterson Lane in Green 
Mountain, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003 at Johnson City Medical Center. 
A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and 
Jennie Griffith Bennett, and wife of the late Phin Peterson. She was 
also preceded in death by a sister, Leona Peterson; and a brother, Troy 
Bennett. She was a former co-owner of Phin Peterson Store.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Lee Hughes, Patricia Odom, and 
Mary Ellen Woody, all of Green Mountain; one son, Lynn Peterson of Green 
Mountain; one sister, Maude Peterson of Green Mountain; six grandchildren; 
and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Henline-
Hughes Funeral Home. Revs. Blaine Whitson, Palma Bennett and Frank Murphy 
officiated. Burual was at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery. The family 
received friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
