He was the son of the late Russell and Dovie Greene Putman. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Hughes, and brothers, Earl and Arthur Putman. He was a farmer and member of Big Rock Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Ledford Putman of the home; three sons, Bobby Ray Putman of Jonesborough, TN, and J.H. and Wade Putman of Bakersville; two sisters, Daisy Hicks of Johnson City, and Ethel Mosley of Bakersville; one brother, Russell Putman of Bakersville; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Revs. Jack Callahan and Howard Honeycutt officiated. Burial was at 11 a.m. Friday in Mosley Cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
