MITCHELL COUNTY, NC - OBITUARIES - Georgia Putman, 25 Mar 2003 ----¤¤¤¤---- Georgia Putman Georgia Putman, 76, Herm Barnett Road, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Putman was a native of Mitchell County, N.C., and the daughter of the late Eddie Wilson and Dovie McNeil Melton. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Patricia Putman, a brother, Lonnie Wilson, and a sister, Ellen Hudson. Mrs. Putman was a homemaker and a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, George "Wash" Putman, of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Putman, of the home, Wanda and Wayne Stocton and Alma and Larry Gouge, all of Roan Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles "Gene" and Carron Putman, Roan Mountain; seven grandchildren, Rodney Stocton, Shannon Forbes, Karen Carr, Jeffery Gouge, Christopher Gouge, Judy Hill and Jessica Putman; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman Wilson, Connellys Springs, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Gladys Barnette, Roan Mountain. Richard Blevins and the Rev. Leonard Sheehan officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Burbank Free Will Baptist Church Choir. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, at Hughes Family Cemetery, Buladean, N.C. Active pallbearers will be Rodney Stocton, Mark Forbes, Jeffery Gouge, Christopher Gouge, Tony Carr, Tony Carr Jr., Gregory Oakes and Eddie Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Barnett, Ted Barnett, S.D. Hughes, J.C. Putman and Joe Winters. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m. Friday.
