Henline-Hughes Funeral Home
Charles Richard Rice, age 74, of Hobson Road, Bakersville, NC, passed away 
January 30, 2009, at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, NC.  He 
was a native of Mitchell County, NC, and the son of the late Andrew Jackson and 
Ella Mae Hardin Rice and was self employed as a landscaper and farmer.  He 
enjoyed woodworking, cooking, tinkering on his projects, and was an avid 
farmer.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include:  daughter, Patricia "Patty" Hipps, of Shelby, NC, sons, 
Jeffrey "Jeff" Daniel Rice, of Somerset, KY, Ed and Philip Rice of Cherryville, 
NC, sisters Ethel Ledford, Virgie Rice, and Inez Rice, all of Bakersville, NC, 
brothers, Lowell Rice, of Bakersville, NC, and Ernest Rice, of Falston, NC, 
grandchildren, Cody and Jalyn Rice, Paul Hipps, and Kelli Rice, great grand 
children, Mason and Milia Crawford, several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by granddaughter, Lisa Hipps Crawford, and brothers, 
Jr and Frank Rice.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 1, 2009, from 5-7PM in the 
Chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home and at other times at Lavie and Ethel 
Ledford's home in Bakersville, NC.

Henline-Hughes is assisting the Rice family.
